Ian Gwin-Lewis is a writer and translator of Baltic languages (Estonian, Finnish, Latvian). His current dissertation "The Secret of the Waves: Water-Spirits and the Mermaid Cycle in Genres of the Fairy Tale" treats the history of beliefs and narratives of water-spirits in the East Baltic and Nordic regions. He has published research and translations of the decadent Estonian writer Jaan Oks and an essay on Oscar Milosz, the Franco-Lithuanian poet and diplomat.
